2020 Chateau des Antonins Bordeaux Supérieur Rouge
Deep ruby color with a beautiful complexity on the nose, revealing aromas of black cherry and blackcurrant with a note of toasted vanilla in the background and a bit of tobacco. Supple on the attack, full of charm, the mouth is carried by fine tannins which bring a nice harmony. This bottling from Antonins is lovely, authentic and mineral-stuffed with wafting no-wood aromatics. Grape varieties: 50% Merlot / Cabernet Sauvignon.
Château des Antonins
The Château des Antonins owes its name to the monks who occupied the old abbey nestled on the left bank of the Garonne for five centuries. The Antonins’ monks acquired their reputation throughout Europe by treating patients suffering from ergotism (epidemic of infected rye) also called St. Anthony Fire.
Since the 1850s the property has been passionately cared for by the de Roquefeuil family. They have a deep commitment to sustainability - the 27-hectare vineyard is HVE3 certified and features silico-gravelly soils for red grapes and sandy loam for whites.
The winery crafts honest and fruit-driven Bordeaux wines, producing a classic Bordeaux Supérieur with a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that results in a wine with beautiful complexity and fine tannins. Their crisp and zesty Bordeaux Blanc, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, offers refreshing notes of grapefruit and tropical fruit. Completing their portfolio is a delightful rosé, a testament to their dedication to creating wines that are a true expression of their unique terroir. Each bottle from Château des Antonins reflects a legacy of quality and a deep respect for the land.
